USDA Office Lease Terminations Keep Changing

As President Donald Trump and Elon Musk carry on with a public falling out, quiet changes impacting USDA offices across the country continue to be seen on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Wall of Receipts.

Some of the changes are alterations to the type of USDA office listed for a certain location, indicating the respective lease termination is still in play. Others are complete removals of listings, signaling more lease terminations have been rescinded.

Based on correspondence from USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, there’s reason to believe more lease terminations will be rescinded, and therefore more changes to USDA listings on the Wall of Receipts could be coming.

Here’s a closer look at what has transpired in a little more than a week since our latest reporting, and what changes may be forthcoming.

More Lease Terminations Disappear From List

Two more Rural Housing Service (RHS) offices have been removed from DOGE’s lease termination list since Successful Farming first reported that the list had been significantly shortened.

The additional RHS offices no longer facing lease terminations are those in Palmer, Alaska, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

It appears that although they were listed as RHS offices, these are the state Rural Development offices in Alaska and Pennsylvania. RHS is an agency within Rural Development.

More Lease Termination Rescissions in the Works

In a letter from Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to U.S. Senator Adam Schiff dated May 30, Rollins indicated that several California office leases that are still listed on the Wall of Receipts have had rescission requests made.

“My team and I have been in communication with [General Services Administration] and have asked that GSA rescind the termination notices for Bakersfield, Blythe, Los Angeles, Madera, Oxnard, Salinas, Woodland, and Yreka,” Rollins said. “As of the date of this letter, we have confirmed that GSA has rescinded the termination notices for Bakersfield, Blythe, Los Angeles, and Salinas, and we will continue to work with GSA to ensure that the remaining termination notices are rescinded.”

The offices in Madera, Oxnard, Woodland, and Yreka are still listed by DOGE for lease termination. It’s not clear when the listings will be removed from the Wall of Receipts.

The Madera office is a state Farm Service Agency (FSA) office. The Oxnard, Woodland, and Yreka offices are Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) offices.

Rollins also mentioned a Mount Shasta, California, Forest Service office in her letter to Schiff.

“While GSA has sent a termination notice to the lessor of the Forest Service lease in Mount Shasta, USDA is still in discussions with GSA concerning the viability of continuing that lease or if the services provided out of that office can be performed in a more suitable location,” she said.

Mount Shasta was still listed for lease termination as of this reporting. One other California office that was not mentioned in the letter — a Food Safety and Inspection Service office in Brea, California — was still listed for lease termination as of this reporting.

More Lease Termination Listings Altered

When Successful Farming reported on May 29 that the DOGE list had been shortened, five offices that had originally been listed for lease termination as NRCS offices had been changed to county FSA offices.

At the time of this reporting, however, the listed offices had been changed back to NRCS once again. They are the following:

  • Woodland, California
  • Yreka, California
  • Raton, New Mexico
  • Gallup, New Mexico
  • Arecibo, Puerto Rico

Also included in our May 29 reporting was the fact that the listed office in Madera, California, had been changed from a state FSA office to an NRCS office. However, as of this reporting, the Madera office was once again listed as a state FSA office.

This brings the total number of NRCS offices still listed by DOGE for termination to 18.

Here are other changes/corrections made by DOGE since Successful Farming’s May 29 reporting:

  • Boise, Idaho: The office was originally listed as APHIS, changed to NRCS, and was as of this reporting listed as APHIS once again.
  • Greenville, North Carolina: The office was originally listed as RHS and was as of this reporting listed as county FSA.

Remaining Lease Terminations Listed

As of June 9, 2025, a total of 48 USDA offices were still listed for lease termination. According to DOGE, the total savings of the remaining office lease terminations is just under $19.8 million.

Originally, 110 offices were listed with a total reported savings of approximately $57.6 million.
