At the market close, December corn was up 2¼¢ at $4.22 per bushel.

November soybeans were up 7½¢ at $10.29½ per bushel.

“Renewed buying interest supported all commodities early on, as managed money showed interest in several markets,” said Karl Setzer, partner with Consus Ag Consulting. “This was most noticed in the gold market, where futures blew through the $4,000 level for the first time and are now closing in on $4,100. Safe-haven buying is one reason for this, but so is a growing disconnect in the market with the U.S. dollar in favor of crypto markets.”

December CBOT wheat was up ½¢ at $5.07¼ per bushel. December KC wheat jumped 1¼¢ at $4.93¼ per bushel. December Minneapolis wheat was down 3¾¢ at $5.38¾ per bushel.

December live cattle were up $1.15 at $238.87 per hundredweight (cwt). November feeder cattle were $4.57 higher at $368.82 per cwt. December lean hogs were down 15¢ at $88.12 per cwt.

December crude oil was up 55¢ at $61.87 per barrel.

As of 3:15 p.m. CT, the S&P 500 Index was up 39.58 points, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1.20 points.

The December U.S. Dollar Index was up 306 points.

“Markets were quiet yesterday, as traders awaited details on the administration’s upcoming aid package,” said Cole Raisbeck, commodities broker with Kluis Commodity Advisors. “The aid package was widely rumored to be announced yesterday, but the government shutdown has stalled the process. If the aid package is announced, then the package could ease farmers’ cash flow needs and potentially slow selling through the rest of the fall.”

As of 8:30 a.m. CT, December crude oil was up 47¢ at $61.79 per barrel.

The U.S. Dollar Index December contract was up to 98.51.
