Soybeans Close Up Nearly 19¢

December corn ended the day up 4¼¢ at $4.24 per bushel.

November soybeans closed up 18¾¢ at $10.20½ per bushel.

September wheat contracts ended the day mostly lower. CBOT wheat closed up 3¼¢ at $5.41¼ per bushel. KC wheat was down a penny at $5.22¾ per bushel. CBOT spring wheat was down a penny at $5.80. Minneapolis wheat was down 1¾¢ at $5.99½.

“After a strong night session, futures started day trade mixed,” said Karl Setzer, partner at Consus Ag Consulting. “Soybeans were the leader as fresh buying interest surfaced in the complex. This was brought on by a 120,000-metric-ton flash sale to an unknown buyer. It was rumored that China was shopping for U.S. soybeans off the Pacific Northwest and the freight market backed it up. If this was in fact China, it would put the first new-crop sale on the books for them. Soybeans took additional support from news a trade deal has been made with Indonesia, and soy meal would likely be a beneficiary of this.”

October live cattle closed up $1.48 at $220.75 per hundredweight (cwt). August feeder cattle were up $3.30 at $325.58 per cwt. October lean hogs were up $1.23 at $88.70 per cwt.

Shortly past 3 p.m. CT, September crude oil was up 5¢ at $65.42 per barrel.

The S&P 500 Index was up 19.93 points and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 231.49 points.
