An estimated 72% of the corn crop has been harvested nationwide, but how is corn harvest progressing in each of the top 18 corn-growing states?

By this point in the growing season, most top states are at least halfway done. Although the USDA hasn’t released a Crop Progress report for a month, five-year averages from the department’s report a year ago provide a benchmark for harvest progress in each state.

Less Than Halfway

For four of the top corn-growing states, five-year averages for corn harvest progress were less than 50% as of the week that ended Oct. 27, 2024. Progress spanned from 35–44% complete.

  • Michigan: 35%
  • Wisconsin: 35%
  • Ohio: 38%
  • Pennsylvania: 44%

Between Halfway and 75%

For eight of the top corn-growing states, five-year averages for corn harvest progress were between 50% and 75% as of the week that ended Oct. 27, 2024. Progress spanned from 52–73% complete.

  • North Dakota: 52%
  • Indiana: 58%
  • Colorado: 59%
  • South Dakota: 59%
  • Iowa: 63%
  • Minnesota: 63%
  • Nebraska: 67%
  • Illinois: 73%

Between 75% and Done

For the remaining six top corn-growing states, five-year averages for corn harvest progress were more than 75% as of the week that ended Oct. 27, 2024. Progress spanned from 77–96% complete.

  • Missouri: 77%
  • Kansas: 84%
  • Kentucky: 87%
  • Texas: 91%
  • Tennessee: 93%
  • North Carolina: 96%
