As part of National Nurses Month, AgriSafe is recognizing the essential role rural nurses play in agricultural communities by offering full scholarships for its Nurse Scholar program — a $500 value. The program is designed to support nurses who are committed to improving health outcomes in America’s rural and farming regions.

The AgriSafe Nurse Scholar program is a distance learning course developed specifically for rural nurses. It provides 23 ANCC contact hours of continuing education, focusing on the prevention, identification, and assessment of health conditions related to agricultural work exposures. The program is asynchronous and accessible online, allowing participants to complete coursework on their own time.

“Rural nurses are crucial for the health and well-being of agricultural communities,” said Dr. Jessi Grote, DNP, RN, NPD-BC, AgriSafe’s Professional Development Coordinator. “AgriSafe is proud to offer scholarships that support their growth.”

Applicants must be currently employed by a rural nonprofit clinic, nonprofit organization or hospital, critical access hospital, Federally Qualified Health Center, school, or educational institution within the U.S. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is May 30, 2025.

Through video testimonials, past participants highlighted how the program helped them provide more complete and compassionate care to farming families and workers. One participant, a nurse and farm producer, noted, “We celebrate the power of rural every day. This program gave me the tools I need to care for the people who grow our food, fiber, and fuel.”

The course is delivered in partnership with the University of Nebraska Medical Center, which is jointly accredited to provide continuing education for healthcare teams. The university designates this program for 23 ANCC contact hours.

Nurses interested in applying for the scholarship can visit the website here.
