Where Did Corn Conditions Improve Last Week?

The average condition of the U.S. corn crop remained steady last week, according to the USDA Crop Progress report released Monday. Yet there were some notable changes in conditions at the state level. 

Seven top corn-growing states saw an increase in good-to-excellent corn during the week ending Aug. 24, compared to the week prior. Here’s a closer look. 

Ohio

The Buckeye State saw the greatest improvement in corn conditions week-over-week.

For the week ending Aug. 24, 63% of Ohio’s corn was in good/excellent condition. That’s up 8 percentage points compared to the previous week, when just 55% of the state’s corn was rated good/excellent by USDA.

Colorado

Good/excellent corn in Colorado improved 6 percentage points week-over-week, USDA said.

For the week ending Aug. 24, 72% of Colorado’s corn was in good/excellent condition. The week prior, only 66% of the crop was rated good/excellent by USDA.

Michigan

The corn crop in Michigan also improved 6 points week-over-week, reaching its highest point since the beginning of August and its second highest point since early July.

For the week ending Aug. 24, 54% of Michigan’s corn was in good/excellent condition. The week prior, only 48% of the crop was rated good/excellent by USDA.

Minnesota

Good/excellent corn in Minnesota improved 2 percentage points week-over-week.

For the week ending Aug. 24, 76% of Minnesota’s corn was in good/excellent condition. The week prior, 74% of the crop was rated good/excellent by USDA. 

Missouri

The corn crop in Missouri also improved 2 percentage points week-over-week.

For the week ending Aug. 24, 79% of Missouri’s corn was in good/excellent condition. The week prior, 77% of the crop was rated good/excellent by USDA. 

Nebraska

Good/excellent corn in Nebraska improved 1 percentage point week-over-week.

For the week ending Aug. 24, 78% of Nebraska’s corn was in good/excellent condition. The week prior, 77% of the crop was rated good/excellent by USDA. 

Wisconsin

The corn crop in Wisconsin also improved 1 percentage point week-over-week.

For the week ending Aug. 24, 83% of Wisconsin’s corn was in good/excellent condition. The week prior, 82% of the crop was rated good/excellent by USDA.
