Syngenta and Taranis Bring AI Crop Intelligence to Midwest

Syngenta Crop Protection and Taranis are expanding their partnership to provide agricultural retailers across the Midwest with AI-powered crop monitoring tools. The program aims to help retailers identify field issues earlier and support more timely crop protection decisions for customers.

“AI is agriculture’s next transformative breakthrough,” said Vern Hawkins, president of Syngenta Crop Protection and regional director for North America. “Our collaboration with Taranis showed how combining AI crop intelligence with agronomic knowledge and crop protection products can create value for both retailers and growers.”

Efficiency Gains From Early Detection

In 2025, participating retailers used the Taranis AI Crop Intelligence platform to detect pest, disease, and nutrient issues at the leaf level. “Retailers told us they were able to streamline operations — focusing on high-priority fields and reducing manual scouting time,” said Jason Minton, chief commercial officer at Taranis. “That translated into real efficiency gains.”

The companies said they plan to expand the program across more Midwest retailers in 2026. Taranis also said it will add new tools within its Ag Assistant platform, including improved yield projection algorithms powered by its leaf-level AI system.

Conservation Agronomy Efforts Expand

Beyond crop scouting, the partnership includes conservation agronomy efforts to help retailers support growers seeking conservation funding. “We believe ag retailers play a critical role in connecting conservation solutions to the farm,” said Paul Backman, head of Digital Agriculture and Sustainable Solutions for Syngenta Crop Protection in North America. “By pairing Syngenta’s agronomic expertise with Taranis’ data and analysis, we can make conservation both practical and profitable.”

Retailers interested in participating in the 2026 expansion can contact a Syngenta or Taranis representative for more information.
