Wisconsin Film Spotlights Consolidation’s Toll on Family Farms

The Wisconsin Farmers Union premiered a short documentary, All of America, Am I, during its 95th annual state convention, examining how industrialized markets and corporate consolidation are shaping the day-to-day realities of farmers, rural businesses, and the communities tied to them. The film looks beyond abstract economic trends to show how market concentration affects pricing, access, and long-term viability for family farms across the state.

Through interviews and on-the-ground storytelling, the documentary follows four Wisconsin agricultural operations: Driftless Seed Supply, the Breitenmoser dairy farm, Meadowlark Organics, and Driftless Tannery, illustrating how consolidation influences everything from seed and feed costs to market access and community resilience. Narrated by Wisconsin author Michael Perry, the film connects national market forces to the lived experiences of producers working to maintain local control and fairness in the food system.

“Farmers across Wisconsin are feeling the squeeze,” said WFU President Darin Von Ruden. “This film shines a light on both the challenges created by concentrated markets and the grassroots solutions our members are building every day.” Supported by Farm Aid, All of America, Am I is positioned as a call to action, encouraging engagement in efforts to promote competitive markets, fair prices, and a stronger future for family farms.
