U.S. Corn Hits Season-High Rating for Good/Excellent Condition

Today, USDA published the 13th Crop Progress report of the 2025 growing season. Here’s a look at the latest corn, soybean, wheat, and oat numbers.

Corn

As of June 29, 8% of the corn crop across 14 of the country’s top 18 corn-growing states had reached the silking stage. That’s ahead of the five-year average of 6%.

USDA reported the condition of the nation’s corn crop as follows:

• Good/excellent: 73%
• Fair: 22%
• Poor/very poor: 5%

That’s the highest good/excellent percentage of the season.

Soybeans

The USDA said that as of June 29, 94% of the soybean crop across the top 18 soybean-growing states had emerged. The five-year average is 95%.

Emergence in Louisiana and Nebraska reached 100% the week that ended June 29, which is ahead of normal for both states.

The agency said 17% of the crop in all 18 states had reached the blooming stage. The five-year average is 16%.

This was the first report including the progress of soybeans setting pods across top soybean-growing states. USDA said 3% of the crop in eight states had reached that stage. The five-year average is 2%.

For the week that ended June 29, the condition of the nation’s soybeans was as follows:

• Good/excellent: 66%
• Fair: 27%
• Poor/very poor: 7%

Winter Wheat

The USDA reported that 37% of the winter wheat crop across 14 of the top 18 states had been harvested as of June 29, behind the five-year average of 42%.

The condition of the nation’s winter wheat crop was as follows:

• Good/excellent: 48%
• Fair: 32%
• Poor/very poor: 20%

Spring Wheat

In the six spring wheat-growing states, 96% of the crop had emerged as of June 29. That’s behind the five-year average of 100%.

Emergence has reached 100% in all states except Montana, USDA said. Reported emergence in Montana was 83%, behind the five-year average of 99%.

The agency said 38% of the crop had headed in all six states by June 29, while the five-year average is 37%.

For the week ending June 29, the condition of the spring wheat crop was as follows:

• Good/excellent: 53%
• Fair: 33%
• Poor/very poor: 14%

Oats

Across the nine top oat-growing states, 74% of the crop had headed by June 29, according to the USDA. That’s ahead of the five-year average of 72%.

For the week that ended June 29, the condition of the nation’s oat crop was as follows:

• Good/excellent: 61%
• Fair: 24%
• Poor/very poor: 15%
