In the USDA Crop Progress report released on Sept. 15, 11 states reported soybean harvest. Harvest progress across those states was 5%, which is 2 percentage points ahead of the five-year average. Here’s a closer look at the states reporting soybean harvest.
Louisiana
Louisiana has the most soybeans harvested with the USDA reporting 63% completed. That’s 13 percentage points ahead of the prior week. At this time last year, 45% of soybeans were harvested. The five-year average is 47%.
The USDA reported that Louisiana soybean condition was rated 0% very poor, 0% poor, 20% fair, 78% good, and 2% excellent.
Mississippi
The USDA reported 43% of Mississippi soybeans had been harvested. That’s 15 percentage points ahead of last week and up 1 percentage point from this time last year. That’s ahead of the five-year average of 28%.
Mississippi soybean condition was rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 31% fair, 41% good, and 22% excellent.
Arkansas
In Arkansas, 25% of soybeans have been harvested. That’s up 6 points from last week but down 3 percentage points from this time last year. The five-year average is 13%.
Arkansas soybean condition was rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 28% fair, 51% good, and 14% excellent.
Tennessee
As of Sept. 14, Tennessee had 17% of soybeans harvested. The prior week, 9% of soybeans had been harvested. Last year at this time, 20% of the crop had been harvested. The five-year average is 7%.
Tennessee soybean condition was rated 11% very poor, 16% poor, 36% fair, 28% good, and 9% excellent.
Missouri
The USDA said 4% of Missouri soybeans had been harvested, which is 1 percentage point ahead of the prior week. This time last year, 4% of the soybeans had been harvested. The five-year average is 1%.
Missouri soybean condition was rated 1% very poor, 9% poor, 30% fair, 54% good, and 6% excellent for the week ending Sept. 14.
Kentucky
In Kentucky, 4% of the crop had been harvested. That’s 5 percentage points behind this time last year. The five-year average is 5%.
The USDA rated Kentucky soybean condition 8% very poor, 25% poor, 31% fair, 32% good, and 4% excellent.
North Carolina
Joining the list for the first time, the USDA reported 2% of soybeans had been harvested in North Carolina. Last year, 1% of the soybeans were harvested. The state is ahead of its five-year average of 1%.
The latest Crop Progress report rated the North Carolina soybean condition 4% very poor, 9% poor, 37% fair, 44% good, and 6% excellent.
Illinois
In Illinois, 3% of soybeans have been harvested. Last year, 5% of the crop was reported as harvested at this point. The five-year average is 2%.
The USDA rated the state’s soybean crop 10% very poor, 13% poor, 27% fair, 41% good, and 9% excellent.
Indiana
The USDA reported 3% of Indiana soybeans had been harvested. Last year at this time, 5% had been harvested. The five-year average is 2%.
Indiana soybean condition was rated 4% very poor, 9% poor, 29% fair, 49% good, and 9% excellent.
Iowa
Also joining the list for the first time this year is Iowa, with 1% of soybeans reported as harvested. Last year, 1% of the crop was harvested. That’s on track with the five-year average.
Iowa soybean condition was rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 20% fair, 57% good, and 18% excellent.
Ohio
The USDA reported 2% of Ohio soybeans had been harvested. Last year at this time, 3% of the crop was reported as harvested. The five-year average is 1%.
The USDA rated Ohio soybean condition 9% very poor, 11% poor, 36% fair, 38% good, and 6% excellent.
