AGCO Corporation released the Massey Ferguson SB.1436DB small square baler at the 2025 National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Kentucky this week. The baler produces two rows of bales per field pass, doubling the output of a single baler that produces 14-by-18-inch bales.
“The SB.1436DB is built to meet the needs of modern hay producers who face increasing pressure from labor shortages, tight harvest windows, and demanding quality standards,” said Dane Mosel, marketing manager, Massey Ferguson.
Field Performance
The ability to produce two rows of bales per pass reduces labor, equipment, and fuel costs.
“This baler makes a bale that is technically 36 inches wide, and then splits it into two 18-inch bales,” said Jessica Williamson, a marketing manager with Massey Ferguson Hay Equipment. “It cuts your labor needs in half, along with cutting tractor needs in half.”

Other features include:
- A 105-inch pickup width
- Operates at 90 strokes per minute with a 21.9-inch stroke length
- Automates bale density, weight, and dimensions with the SimplEbale system for consistent results to eliminate productivity losses caused by manual errors
Bale Consistency
Consistent sized bales are important for storage and transportation. Williamson said the SB.1436DB features an independent knotter trip system that is unique.

“When you think of the way small square bales are marketed, the way they are stacked on wagons or in barns, a variability of even two or three inches completely disables the ability for neat stacking,” she said. “That was a concern of our customers, so we designed the independent knotter system to get the exact same consistency.”
Uptime Improvements
The SB.1436DB is engineered to keep operators in the field longer with additional features:
- Twine storage holds 20 balls, producing up to 8,000 bales before refilling — double the capacity of comparable balers
- Automated knotter lubrication minimizes manual intervention, increasing field time
- Easy service access to critical components
