March corn ended the day up 4¼¢ at $4.78¾ per bushel.
March soybeans closed down 4¾¢ at $10.42¾ per bushel.
March wheat contracts closed mixed. CBOT wheat ended the day up less than a penny at $5.47 per bushel. KC wheat ended the day down 3¼¢ at $5.57½ per bushel. Minneapolis wheat ended the day down 2¢ at $5.87½ per bushel.
The Grain Market Insider newsletter by Stewart-Peterson Inc. said, “Firm crude oil prices and strong ethanol production [as reported today by the U.S. Energy Information Administration] supported corn futures, pushing prices back near recent highs.”
The newsletter also said, “Soybean futures closed lower as poor technical signals weighed on the market, despite record December soybean crush figures reported by NOPA [National Oilseed Processors Association].”
Concerning wheat, Grain Market Insider said, “Wheat futures posted a mixed close for the second straight session, with lower Paris milling wheat futures adding pressure to U.S. wheat markets.”
April live cattle ended the day up $1.18 at $199.33 per hundredweight (cwt). March feeder cattle ended the day up $1.60 at $269.80 per cwt. April lean hogs closed up 53¢ at $91.03 per cwt.
Just past 3:30 p.m. CT, March crude oil was up $2.72 and March S&P 500 futures and Dow futures were up 106 points and 714 points, respectively.
