The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a warning following a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to eggs distributed by the August Egg Company.
As of early June 2025, at least 79 individuals across seven states have been sickened by the same outbreak strain, with 21 people requiring hospitalization. Thankfully, no deaths have been reported at this time.
The affected eggs include organic, cage-free brown, and omega-3 varieties, all bearing the plant code P-6562 or CA5330. According to the CDC report, these eggs were sold between February and May 2025 in numerous states, including Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington, and Wyoming.
The recalled products were available at major retail outlets such as Walmart, Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Lucky, Smart & Final, Safeway, Raley’s, Food 4 Less, and Ralphs. The sell-by dates range from March 4 to June 19, 2025.

Consumers are urged not to eat any recalled eggs. They should dispose of them immediately or return them to the store. Additionally, any surfaces, utensils, or dishes that may have come into contact with the eggs should be thoroughly cleaned with hot, soapy water or run through a dishwasher. Individuals experiencing severe Salmonella symptoms — such as high fever, prolonged diarrhea, bloody stools, vomiting, or signs of dehydration — should contact a healthcare provider.
Businesses must also take precautions. Restaurants and retailers should not sell or serve the recalled eggs and must sanitize all surfaces that may have been contaminated.
Salmonella typically causes symptoms within six hours to six days after exposure and can last up to a week. While most recover without treatment, young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe illness.
