At the market close, December corn was down 4¼¢ at $4.18 per bushel.

November soybeans were down ½¢ at $10.25½ per bushel.

“Futures were under pressure to start [Tuesday] but ground higher as the session progressed.” said Karl Setzer, partner with Consus Ag Consulting. “The managed-money crowd remains focused on the equity market, and that is where money flow is directed. Until this changes, upside market potential may be limited.”

He added, “Corn demand remains above expectations, but now that the South American export program is picking up, this will slow.”

The wheat markets were stronger at the close. September CBOT wheat was up 7¼¢ at $5.49½ per bushel. September KC wheat was 7½¢ higher at $5.33¼ per bushel. September Minneapolis wheat was unchanged at $5.60 per bushel.

October live cattle were down 50¢ at $221.12 per hundredweight (cwt). August feeder cattle were 67¢ stronger at $328.27 per cwt. October lean hogs were 47¢ weaker at $90.50 per cwt.

Just after 3 p.m. CT, September crude oil was down 42¢ at $65.53 per barrel.

September S&P 500 futures were down a point. The September Dow was up 162 points.

The September U.S. Dollar Index was down 470 points.

“Futures are again in the red [Tuesday] morning as there simply is not enough fresh bullish news to attract buying interest,” said Karl Setzer, partner with Consus Ag Consulting. “The managed money crowd remains focused on the equity market and that is where money flow is directed. Until this changes, upside market potential may be limited.”

He added, “Weather remains a mixed bag [Tuesday] morning with some regions of the Corn Belt seeing adequate rainfall while others are seeing drought stress build.”

The wheat markets were mixed at the start of the trading session. September CBOT wheat was up 9¢ at $5.51¼ per bushel. September KC wheat increased 10¾¢ at $5.36½ per bushel. September Minneapolis wheat was 14½¢ weaker at $5.60 per bushel.
