FarmPath Aims to Reduce Barriers for the Next Generation of Farmers

Beginning farmers face a wide range of barriers including access to capital and markets, and they may not have a previous generation to teach them how to run a farm and business.

FarmPath, a new program from nonprofit Farm Foundation, aims to support beginning farmers in the U.S. through a combination of practical tools, coaching, and early access to capital. The goal is to increase the success rate of beginning farmers and help them build generational operations.

According to the FarmPath website, the program will reduce financial barriers by providing startup micro-grants to help with critical early purchases. Participating farmers will learn to navigate financing programs and build plans to present to lenders, and will get help accessing those sources.

FarmPath will provide training and workshops on topics including business planning, sustainable production, market access, and risk management. Participants will also learn through a one-on-one mentorship program with experienced farmers and ag professionals.

Through a network of farmers and regional connections, participants will gain access to markets, service providers, and buyers.

A press release from Farm Foundation said organizers hope to enroll 300 farmers in the three-year program. Aspiring farmers and those who have been farming for up to 10 years can apply in early 2026.

Farm Foundation, a think tank for agriculture, has been addressing food and agriculture challenges since 1933. FarmPath is sponsored by the Mosaic Company Foundation for Sustainable Food Systems and the PepsiCo Foundation.
