4 States Still Reporting Corn Emergence Shy of 75%

Farmers in Colorado, Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania are still waiting for more than a quarter of their corn to emerge. The latest Crop Progress report published by USDA indicated 87% of the national corn crop has emerged.

Colorado

As of the week ended June 8, 71% of Colorado corn had emerged. This is 3 percentage points behind the five-year average. However, 2025 corn emergence is well ahead of the 62% out of the ground at this time last year.

USDA rated Colorado corn 1% very poor, 2% poor, 19% fair, 59% good, and 19% excellent.

Kentucky

The latest Crop Progress report showed 74% of Kentucky corn has emerged. This is 9 percentage points behind the five-year average. Last year at this time 75% of the Kentucky corn crop had emerged.

USDA rated Kentucky corn 1% very poor, 2% poor, 23% fair, 65% good, and 9% excellent.

Ohio

Ohio corn emergence progress reached 68% the week ended June 8. This is significantly behind the five-year average of 81%. Last year 83% of Ohio corn had emerged.

USDA rated Ohio corn 2% very poor, 6% poor, 34% fair, 48% good, and 10% excellent.

Pennsylvania

As of the week ended June 8, 56% of Pennsylvania corn had emerged. This is 9 percentage points behind the state’s five-year average. Last year at this time 57% of Pennsylvania corn crop had emerged.

USDA rated Pennsylvania corn 8% fair, 68% good, and 24% excellent. There was no corn rated very poor or poor during the time period.
