New Holland has added the P2185 air disc drill to its planter lineup, with a new frame designed for ideal weight distribution on many different crop and soil types.
The P2185 is replacing New Holland’s older P2085 air disc drill model.
“All the pet peeves are fixed on the P2185,” says Paul Krahn, seeding products marketing manager at New Holland. “We added a lip over the tank to prevent water ingress, and sealed over the meters to make sure water and debris isn’t getting inside. We’ve made this model more efficient for the customer, and automated some functions to give the farmer more confidence while operating.”
Krahn says this model would be ideal as a secondary unit for a corn grower, working on soybeans and wheat as rotation crops, farming on around 1,500 acres or more.
Specs
The P2185 air disc drill is available in 30- and 40-feet configurations, and offered with 7.5-, 10-, and 15-inch spacing. The mounted seed tank has 40 bushel larger carrying capacity than previous models, and is designed for easy access to metering assembly for adjusting, cleanout, and servicing. The 30-foot model offers a 110-bushel capacity, while the 40-foot model offers a 140-bushel capacity.
An all-new closing system allows operators to make indexable angle settings for seed trench closing in all field conditions. The hollow center is designed to reduce compaction while still maintaining seed-to-soil contact. Up to 100 pounds of pressure are available, with convenient settings at 60, 70, and 100 pounds.
New Holland’s patented parallel link is designed for even seed placement at high speeds on rough terrains. The P2185 has true 0- to 3.5-inch depth settings, made with single-handed adjustments.
The disc drill mounted tank models include a new seed meter, offering fine, medium, and coarse rollers to cover all crop types. It’s designed for easy cleanout serviceability, and the ability to quickly change meters.
Opti-Row
The P2185 is equipped with New Holland’s Opti-Row, which controls gauge wheel ground contact force by continuously monitoring and automatically adjusting hydraulic pressure based on ground conditions.
“Opti-Row is communicating with the operator inside the cab, making sure the gauge wheel is riding the ground at 90% or better — the optimum amount to make sure seeds are placed at the right seed depth,” says Krahn. “It also makes sure if you’re riding at 100%, it can back off to save some wear and tear on your equipment.”
The system uses load cells on the depth control handles, electro-hydraulic control valves, and control software. Operators are able to control down pressure via the IntelliView display, to make on the go adjustments without leaving the cab.

New Holland’s P2185 air disc drill is available to order now. The 30-foot configuration starts around $250,000. The 40-foot configuration starts around $300,000.
