John Deere is launching its new F8 and F9 Series self-propelled forage harvesters, designed to increase fuel efficiency, operator comfort, and productivity.

The new machines have increased horsepower and more automation features over previous models.

“A higher-quality forage output with more power, more precision and more uptime — that’s the focus of the new forage harvesters for our customers,” said Bergen Nelson, go-to-market manager for harvesting equipment at John Deere. “We’ve combined our strongest hardware with our newest and smartest precision ag technology to give forage producers a machine they can count on in every pass, every season, to create higher-quality forage they can depend on throughout the year.”

Performance

The F9 Series is available with two engine options, the John Deere 18X and Liebherr V12 24, with horsepower options ranging from 690–1006 hp. The F8 series is built with the JD14X engine with six horsepower options ranging from 419–636 hp.

The JD18X engine features no DEF requirements, and John Deere’s HarvestMotion Plus allows for increased torque at lower rpm, for up to 15% in fuel savings and 10% gain in power.

Technology

The F8 and F9 forage harvesters feature automation technology for ease of operation. Ground speed automation helps maintain ideal load and adjusts ground speed in real time based on crop conditions. ProTouch Harvest, allows farmers to use multiple harvest-ready settings with the push of a button, and Active Fill Control helps maintain consistent truck fills.

Forage Quality

The new harvesters feature a new inoculant dosing system with an insulated, larger-capacity tank. An automated cleaning system is included to help reduce end-of-day maintenance, with improved feed preservation.

The new machines have two different kernel processor ranges: the John Deere Ultimate250 KP and the XStream305. The XStream305 covers up to 56% more surface area for a more effective kernel crush at wider gaps, helping to increase wear life as well as optimal milk production.

Cab Features

The forage harvesters now include a swivel seat, allowing for improved unloading visibility and elevated operator comfort. The cab also has a hydro handle and G5 display system for more control of the machine from the cab. There are two optional lighting packages available for better nighttime visibility.
