Soybean farmers in search of options for controlling herbicide-resistant weeds, such as waterhemp and Palmer amaranth, will have two new choices from Corteva in 2025. Corteva Agriscience has announced the launch of Kyber Pro herbicide and Sonic Boom herbicide — both are preemergence products with multiple modes of action and residual activity.

Sonic Boom is active on many of the hard-to-control and resistant broadleaf weeds, such as waterhemp and Palmer amaranth, said Drake Robards, U.S. product manager, soybean herbicides, Corteva. Kyber Pro also controls many of the same broadleaf weeds as Sonic Boom, plus has a Group 15 active for additional control of grass weeds.

Both Kyber Pro and Sonic Boom herbicides fit well as preemergence herbicides in a program approach to season-long weed control in the Enlist E3 soybeans system.

Kyber Pro herbicide contains three modes of action: metribuzin, flumioxazin, and pyroxasulfone, offering control of more than 50 broadleaf and grass weeds, including hard-to-control and ALS- and PPO-resistant weeds like Palmer amaranth and waterhemp. Kyber Pro herbicide offers up to six weeks of residual activity.

Kyber Pro herbicide can be tank-mixed and applied with burndown herbicides prior to planting or with other preemergence herbicides. Additionally, Kyber Pro herbicide comes as a liquid premix formulation for ease of in-season mixing, handling, and storage.

Sonic Boom herbicide offers two modes of action, metribuzin, and sulfentrazone, offering control against waterhemp, Palmer amaranth, marestail, and kochia.

Sonic Boom herbicide also provides several weeks of residual weed control and comes in a liquid premix formulation with tank mix flexibility. Sonic Boom herbicide can be applied as a fall or spring burndown, preplant, or preemergence.

Kyber Pro and Sonic Boom herbicides have received federal registration. State registrations are in progress. Kyber Pro herbicide is currently available for purchase in states where it has already received state registration. Sonic Boom herbicide is expected to be available for purchase in early 2025. “At Corteva, it’s our job to help soybean growers overcome the challenges of the shifting weed control landscape,” said Robards.  “Kyber Pro and Sonic Boom herbicides offer diverse modes of action and several weeks of residual control in convenient premix formulations.”
