The 4-H Youth in Action program recognizes young people who have benefited from their 4-H experience and are making an impact in their communities. The program provides leadership opportunities and national exposure to selected participants.
Each year, four 4-H members receive the Youth in Action Award, which includes a $5,000 scholarship for higher education. The scholarship can be used for two-year and four-year colleges, trade schools, or other advanced learning opportunities.
In addition to financial support, winners participate in a year of professional and media training, developing skills in public speaking, networking, and storytelling. They also serve as national spokespersons for their program areas and attend national events with a chaperone, all expenses covered.
As part of their recognition, winners receive a reference letter from a National 4-H Council leader to support their educational or career goals.
All applicants gain access to media, interview, and storytelling training from National 4-H professionals and are included in the national 4-H story database, which may lead to additional multimedia or spokesperson opportunities.
Teens aged 14 to 19 are encouraged to apply. To help with the application process, 4-H is hosting an informational session from 7 to 8 p.m. ET February 26. The session will provide details on the program benefits and tips for a strong application.
