Veterinary Pharmaceutical Solution, has announced the recipients of its two individual $2,500 scholarships awarded as part of its 30 Year Anniversary Celebration. Dr. McKenna Henningsen of Keota Veterinary Clinic and Dr. Rachel Stika Jensen of Pipestone Veterinary Services were selected as the recipients.
The VPS scholarships were created to support early-career veterinarians. Each recipient received a financial award of $2,500 to support their continued professional development and contributions to the industry. To apply for the scholarship, applicants were required to submit an essay or video outlining the significance of the Animal Medicinal Drug Use Clarification Act and 21 CFR Part 530 and its impact on their veterinary practice. Both regulations continue to play a significant role in expanding therapy for livestock and poultry under the guidance of a veterinarian.
Dr. McKenna Henningsen, of Keota, Iowa, specializes in commercial livestock, particularly swine production, where she emphasizes the need for tools when disease prevention through strong vaccine and biosecurity protocols breaks down.
“AMDUCA and 21 CFR Part 530 regulations empower veterinarians to use the scientific training they received through veterinary school to do what is right for the animal, while also upholding their ethical and legal obligations,” said Dr. Henningsen. “They are vital tools in my decision-making toolbox.”
Dr. Rachel Stika Jensen of Pipestone, Minnesota, is a swine veterinarian. Her commitment to antimicrobial stewardship and legal compliance highlights the critical role veterinarians play in maintaining public health and food safety.
